Palate Restaurant

In 2015 Palate celebrates ten years since the restaurant first opened. Head chef and owner Mat McLean and his team deliver one of the best food and wine experiences in the Waikato. Located beside the river in the heart of Hamilton the spacious, monochromatic, split-level restaurant provides the perfect setting for fresh, seasonal top quality produce matched to a stunning wine list. We visited Palate recently to try their Degustation. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the service was beyond excellent. The food was extremely well presented and delicious although being a large eater I was still a little hungry at the end. My favorite dish of the evening was the “Study of Granny Smith Apples” which was paired with a very nice dessert...

Castle 91

Once again we had a delicious treat for lunch at castle 91. The device was attentive and the food delicious. Castle 91 offer a special on Weekdays for lunch of a curry, rice, small drink and naan for $12.99 which is great...

Paddock

Paddock in Cambridge has proved to be one of my favorite places to eat recently….especially since I’ve gone gluten free and low carb. Paddock offers a range of delicious burgers which I love and to top it off you can get them on gluten free buns or wrapped in lettuce if that’s the way you are...

Cullens

At Cullens we only use naturally farmed foods, so the meals are as happy and healthy as can be. We use pork and bacon from Freedom Farm’s, Hawke’s Bay lamb, Mahi Farm eye fillet and free range chicken and eggs.

Masu

What an awesome place, from the moment you arrive you are treated incredibly well. Yesterday the top up of water and Tea was a little slow but if that’s the only negative I can come up with then you know things are great. The food tastes spectacular and I am always amazed by the flavors. This is the second time I’ve had lunch and opted for the ex press option which forces me to try things I’d never tried before such as the soft shell crab and the tempura vegetables. Highly...

Momento – Hamilton

This is our first time to Momento in Hamilton and we are enjoying our experience. There are toys for the kids, there is a nice ambience and on this cold rainy day the surroundings are warm and inviting. The staff are friendly and helpful and importantly the coffee is great. Rebecca had a slice however which she only rates as...

Jai Jalaram Khaman – Sandringham

Jai Jalaram Khaman is a vegetarian Gujarat restaurant in Sandringham.  Nestled amongst the other restaurants, dairies and food stores, it stands out because of its pinky orange exterior.  However, you could be forgiven for passing it by, as little from the outside indicates the great food inside.  A true suburban corner shop style ethnic restaurant, once inside the diner is greeted by a small space, with formica tables and kitchen chairs.  This place is not about atmosphere, it is about good food....

CIMA Restaurant Cafe

I ate breakfast at Cima every Wednesday for nearly 2 years. They made the most wonderful omelets and I do miss them.

Adriana’s Caffe & Ristorante

Adriana’s caffe & ristorante was established in the eighties as Hamilton’s first authentic Italian cuisine restaurant. Named after the original owner, (Adriana – a vivacious and talented Italian lady), Adriana’s has been trading successfully from its Alma Street premises in the CBD for 18 years and is proudly the oldest restaurant in the city. Renowned for its unique and intimate ambience, its level of personalised service and its consistently authentic Italian cuisine, Adriana’s remains a popular first-choice for discerning Hamiltonians, the many international visitors to the city, including many patrons from Auckland and other regional centres. We invite you to come and enjoy a truly memorable dining experience at Adriana’s. (To avoid disappointment, prior reservations are advised) Adriana’s is Fully Licensed. Secure Parking is available at Sky Riverside Casino which is adjacent to the Novotel and just a short walk from Adriana’s. Open Monday to Saturday from 6.00pm till...

Sachi Suchi and Seafood Bar

Sachi Suchi and Seafood Bar is a great addition to the Nelson restaurant scene, providing interesting Japanese food in an excellent setting.

Yum Yum is my little place where ….when I remember …I can write about the restaurants, cafes, hotels and bars that I have eaten at.

I’m not a professional writer (my wife is so you will notice a difference between the posts she writes and the ones I do.)

As foodies we love to eat out at all sorts of eateries, in fact we buy the gold book every year so that we have a new crop of restaurants to try. All kinds of foods make our lists of “loved it” and we continue to explore culinary delights where ever we can.
